How to Get More Google Reviews (the Right Way)
Policy-safe ways to get more Google reviews: review links, WhatsApp requests, timing, replying to reviews and mistakes that can get your profile suspended.

Reviews are one of the strongest signals Google uses to rank businesses on Google Maps, and they are often the deciding factor when a customer compares you with a competitor. The good news is that most happy customers are willing to leave a review. They just need to be asked at the right time, in the right way.
Why reviews matter so much
- Ranking: the number, frequency and quality of reviews influence your position in the Google Maps results.
- Trust: most people read reviews before contacting a local business.
- Clicks: a 4.8★ rating with 100 reviews gets far more calls than a 4.2★ rating with 8.
Step 1: Get your review link
In your Google Business Profile, click Ask for reviews and copy the short link. Anyone who opens it can leave a review in two taps. Save it somewhere you can paste it quickly.
Step 2: Ask at the right moment
The best time to ask is right after a good experience:
- When a project is delivered and the client is happy
- When a customer thanks you
- A day after a successful purchase or appointment
Step 3: Make it personal and easy
A short WhatsApp message works best. For example:
Hi Rahul, thank you for choosing us. If you were happy with our work, could you share a quick review on Google? It really helps a small business like ours. Here's the link: [your link]
Personal messages from the owner get far more responses than generic broadcasts.
Step 4: Reply to every review
Thank people by name for positive reviews. For negative reviews, respond calmly, apologise for the experience, and offer to solve it offline. Future customers read your replies as much as the reviews themselves.
Things you must never do
Google's policies are strict, and breaking them can get reviews removed or your profile suspended:
- Don't buy reviews or use review-exchange groups
- Don't offer discounts or gifts in exchange for reviews
- Don't write reviews yourself or ask staff to post them as customers
- Don't only ask happy customers through a filter that sends unhappy ones elsewhere
Genuine reviews, collected steadily, always win in the long run.
Make it a habit
Set a simple goal, such as asking every satisfied customer the same day. Five new reviews a month for a year puts you ahead of most local competitors.
