When someone searches "near me", Google shows a map with three businesses. Those three get most of the calls. Here's how to become one of them.
How Google ranks local businesses
Google uses three signals for local results: relevance (does your profile match the search?), distance (how close are you?) and prominence (how well known and trusted are you?). You can't move your shop, but you can improve the other two.
Step 1: Complete your Google Business Profile
- Choose the most specific primary category and add relevant secondary ones
- List every service with a short description
- Add real photos of your premises, team and work every month
- Keep opening hours accurate, including holidays
- Publish a post every week: offers, updates or tips
Step 2: Make your NAP consistent everywhere
Your business Name, Address and Phone number must be identical on your website, Google, Justdial, Facebook and every directory. Inconsistencies confuse Google and cost you rankings.
Step 3: Build a steady review engine
Ask every happy customer for a review, ideally with a direct link sent on WhatsApp. Reply to every review, positive or negative. Never buy reviews; it violates Google's policies and can get your profile suspended.
Step 4: Strengthen your website's local signals
Create a page for each service and each area you serve, add LocalBusiness schema and embed a map on your contact page.
Step 5: Track and improve every month
Track your position for your main keywords across your service area and adjust. Local SEO is a steady process rather than a one-time fix.
